Apollo 11 Moon Landing Site

Have you ever seen a panoramic photo from an extraterrestrial location? This image, created from high-resolution scans of the original film frames, transports us to the stunning solitude of the Sea of Tranquility, the site of the Apollo 11 lunar landing.

The photograph taken by Neil Armstrong from the window of the Lunar Module's Eagle compartment, which forms the far left portion of this panoramic view, is the first extraterrestrial photograph taken by a human. The other image, located just below this first image, shows the Lunar Module's thruster nozzles, a metal cup-like structure. On the far right, the Lunar Module's shadow is visible. The small crater directly in front of it measures 12 meters in diameter.

These images were taken approximately 1.5 hours after the Lunar Module landed in the Sea of Tranquility and before the moonwalk. If you'd like to see all the photos from the Apollo 11 mission, You can click hereYou can view the image in higher resolution by clicking on it.
