Geminid Meteor Shower

In this photo we see the Geminids Meteor Shower, also called the winter meteor shower in the north.

This photo was created by combining several digital images taken by Jio Hao in 2014 on Changbai Mountain, located on the border of China and North Korea. The constellation Orion has made its way into the frame, visible above the volcanic crater in the center. Meteors that have entered the atmosphere are visible throughout the image.

Capturing such stunning beauty certainly comes at a cost. Jio Hao had to endure temperatures as low as -34 degrees Celsius (-34 degrees Fahrenheit) and biting, cold winds to capture these photos.
