Three Years of the Sun in Three Minutes
NASA scientists have combined data from three years of observations of the Sun from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) to create a stunning video. Using two images for each day of the Sun, they created a three-minute video covering 1095 days. You can observe random solar flares in the video, which increase in intensity during the peak solar maximum. More discerning observers will notice the Sun's size fluctuating. This is due to the changing distance between the SDO and Earth.
According to NASA's official statement, SDO takes images of the Sun in 10 different light spectrums every 12 seconds. The video's overall image is of the Sun in the ultraviolet spectrum.
In fact, it's worth watching just for the music.
