The Constantly Tangled Headphones Mystery Solved

I'm sure everyone, including me, has struggled with constantly tangled headphones. We spend 5-10 minutes trying to untangle them before even putting them in. There's always a good chance they've gotten tangled up in your pocket. Most of the time, they come out tangled. Sometimes, they're so tangled that we're left wondering how this could have happened. Researchers from the University of California conducted a study on this issue and even uncovered the factors and causes of headphone tangling.

Researchers tested headphones of varying lengths by placing them in a rotating box. They found that the factors that cause tangles are related to the length of the headphones and how much they move. The longest headphone that can be removed without tangling is 46 cm. This means that if you want tangle-free headphones, you should aim for a length of 46 cm or less.

The vertical part of the table shows the interference ratio and the horizontal part shows the length of the cable.

Even this simple thing is actually all about physics. No matter what you do, your headphones won't come out the same way you put them in your pocket. The image below shows a diagram that explains the principle of headphone tangling.
