Books and E-Books
Hello friends. This article will be about a topic I've been observing for the past few years. It's both a bit of questioning and the results of my observations. The topic is books and e-book use.
Most likely, everyone and their circle of friends sees books as equivalent to knowledge and culture. Everyone talks about the benefits of reading books. They're a symbol of development, progress, enlightenment, and even books. So why can't we say the same for e-books?
You might be wondering what the connection is. Let me explain.
I've encountered many people who champion knowledge, books, progress, and development, as well as the green, the environment, and nature. I've never met many of them, many I no longer see, and many are still in my circle of acquaintances. And almost all of them have either shared this image or, out of selfish desires, defended what it portrays.
Of course, I can't just go through this picture. That would be ridiculous. Let me explain briefly.
I haven't bought print books for about five years. Over time, I read books on my sat nav, my phone, and finally my tablet, and I still do. I struggled at first, but I've finally reached a point where I can read comfortably even on a 3.8" phone. When I recommend reading e-books, I get the following responses.
My eyes could not get used to it.
I love the smell of books.
I will have the book in my hand, I will turn the pages, I will enjoy it.
I'm old school and I read printed books.
First of all, I would like to list the benefits of e-Books.
- It reduces paper consumption and therefore tree consumption.
- It has many benefits since there is no transportation problem.
- It is cheaper.
- You can carry many books with you on a single e-reader, smartphone or tablet.
- You can access free books.
- Paid ones are cheaper than printed ones. (Of course, this price reduction is not as noticeable in our country, but it is still cheap.)
- You can download and read books that are not published in our country as e-books on foreign websites.
Considering all this, the responses I receive from people seem so selfish you wouldn't believe me. While everyone else is talking about progress, progressivism, and protecting the environment, their insistence on reading printed books and their excuses are incredibly selfish and contradictory. Then there are those who react as if I'm recommending an iPad, a product of a company I've deliberately taken issue with. Please don't be ridiculous; you can read e-books even on the cheapest 100 TL tablet.
Now my friends, please choose one of them and be honest.
